Sclerotherapy

The most common procedure in men and women for spider veins and varicose veins is Sclerotherapy.  Using a very fine needle, a mild FDA-approved solution is injected into the unwanted vein causing it to collapse and disappear from view.  Treatments usually take 20-45 minutes depending on the number of injections needed, the number of spider veins, and how long the individual wants to undergo treatments at one time.  Sclerotherapy works well for most patients and it is estimated that as many as 50-70% of injected varicose veins may be eliminated with each injection session. Two or more sessions are usually required to achieve optimal results. Even though, Sclerotherapy treatment does not prevent the development of “new” spider veins, the removal of existing ones can dramatically improve the appearance of the affected area.
